Pepero Day is Coming Soon!
It’s not yet November but stores already displays a lot of loot for Pepero Day, small and big pepero. I normally feel ashamed taking photos but this time I took my chance to take a snap and as what I am expected my husband walk away from me. It looks like it is a crime to take photo ah, anyway he don’t like it when I always snap here and there, he always said I am embarrassing him.
Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine’s Day. It is named after the Korean snack Pepero and held on November 11, since the date “11/11” resembles four sticks of Pepero. The holiday is observed mostly by young people and couples, who exchange Pepero sticks, other candies, and romantic gifts. Lotte denies starting the holiday and instead states that they noticed a bump in Pepero sales around November 11th and after continued popularity they decided to then encourage the holiday with special gift boxes and other promotions. Some consider it to be a contrived holiday and some teachers have encouraged children to exchange healthy snacks to help combat obesity. An alternative “Garaetteok Day” (sticks of white tteok) has been proposed.
Ottogi Instant Food
When I first arrived here in Korea I don’t like the taste of the food, so aside from eating noodles all the time the instant food in this yellow boxes is always my meal until such time I also feel tired eating them. We don’t cook in Seoul it is only later we did it, so I normally eat instant food.
Pork and Beans
I have been craving for Pork and Beans and the other day I fed that craving. We don’t really eat Pork and Beans, I just heard and saw this when I am still a toddler and since then I am fascinated what does it taste like. When I am in college and we had a tree planting, my friend and I had an agreement I would bring cooked rice and she would bring our viand. To my surprised she brought two cans of Pork and Beans., so instead of feeling disappointed I feel excited well at least I can taste what Pork and Beans tasted like.
As what I have read the recipe for typical American canned pork and beans varies considerably, but generally consists of navy beans stewed with pork or rendered pork fat. At present, pork and beans is usually also stewed with tomatoes, but this is a 19th century development. Pork and beans is a dish that is routinely purchased canned and reheated on a stove or in a microwave oven.
