Cold Day and Starbucks in Icheon Soon
Well after more than one month I have already decided what this blog all about, this will be my journal in expat living here in Korea. To start with it is chilling cold today with -16 degree Celsius, the frost from yesterday are still in the street but most of them are clean and shoveled by locals.
We went to Lotte Super today to shop for our weekly supplies and I have found out that in the nearby building where Family Mart stands is now under-renovation, soon Starbucks will rise in that area. Within two year of living here in Icheon I have witnessed how the city progress, more and more building, establishments are built.
Chocolates and Baked Goods from My Mother-in-Law
We maybe loss some pounds in India when we got traveler’s diarrhea but we gain more pounds when we arrived here in Korea. You know why? Well because of the sweets we have eaten for weeks, the day we arrived here we found three notices from post office stick in our door, so we immediately went to the nearby postal office but it turns out it is in the main branch. So we took a taxi to get there, the lady in the satellite office wrote the address for us, you might think we are too excited that we can’t wait tomorrow to claim the box. Actually we have to claim it because of the water filters, we need water to drink and I don’t like buying bottled water when we have filters on the box.
These chocolates are from my mother in-law, they are goodies that are sold during Halloween days. My husband asked mom to buy these chocolates for me us, because we are drooling for some sweets during those time, it was shipped through surface that’s why it took two months before it arrived to us.
Few weeks later the baked goods from my mother in-law arrived in our apartment. We are not done yet eating all the goodies and there’s another goodies for us to lure. So imagine all the calories intake or sugar we have eaten in few days. I have managed to control myself from eating the chocolates and sweets so the last part of my share was just eaten yesterday. Thanks to Mom and Dad for the sweets and thoughts!
Mouth Watering Korean Street Foods
Well today is Friday and I am expecting a super busy day but it seems it is not too busy maybe because we don’t need to shop for our daily supplies, as we moved it on Wednesday. Right after gym work out we directly went to one of our favorite food stall to buy street food like ojingo, mandu, twigim, kimari and etc.,
After I shower I went to our favorite bakery to buy some profiteroles, muffin and the bread I don’t know the name. It is kinda hard but sweet then after it we ate our cheat, wash the dishes, do the laundry and etc., so it is not a busy day like before.
Mr. Kebab in Itaewon
We visit to Seoul today to buy a DSLR Camera and when we bought one, we headed to Itaewon to eat Middle Eastern food. We stumble to Mr. Kebab and order a set menu of lamb kebab, it consist of kebab, potato wedges and cola.
The kebab was great and tasted good. I opted for the non-spicy sauce, anyway the owner’s of Mr. Kebab are friendly, courteous and kind.
Kimchi A Lot of Work
It is been few months already since we bought Kimchi from the supermarket but since last week we started to buy and eat Kimchi again. So in short my cooking escapades in our kitchen rolled again, you know frying eggs with kimchi or fried rice and etc.
Just tonight I just finished cutting the kimchi into pieces which is required hard work (lol) what I mean lot of work, need to clean the kitchen for the splattered Kimchi juice, wash the dishes and the Kimchi bag before throwing it in the garbage. If I am not going to wash it the whole apartment will stinks like Kimchi.
Middle of the Night and Craving for Pizza
I wake up late today, it is already noon time. Felt so tired last night, my husband asked me to buy some profiteroles but sad to say nothing is left so I bought muffins instead. When I reached home he is not satisfied with the bake goods and he asked me to look for pizza in the middle of the night, I walked to the pizza place I know and they are all closed. I thought his craving will end up there, but I am wrong he asked me to look for loaf of bread as he wants to have grilled cheese sandwich so I went out again and when I came home I prepared the grilled cheese sandwich.
It has been a long walk last night, I also try to go to Watsons to buy chocolates but it is already closed when I reached there.
More Korean Street Food for Us: Korean Sundae
Did not do much today, we’ve sent the box of goodies home. It’s been here for few months already and I didn’t have a chance to send it until today. My husband got annoyed when I didn’t open the door for him in the postal office, it just happened that I forgot about it, haha plus I am walking after him, so he told me that next time he wouldn’t carry my box anymore.
After gym we walked to the bus station to buy street foods like hotdog, sundae, teokkbogi and a lot more which I cannot remember the name. We feasted at them when we reached home,.
Korean Street Foods
That’s what we got last Saturday, my husband and I decided to take a short walk and try some street foods, we had fish cake, hoddeok, pepper with stuff in the inside, dumplings and few other things I can’t remember the name.
This is my share of the street foods my husband started eating his share in the street, he said that’s why it is called street food, to be eaten in the street.
Injeolmi: A Korean Rice Cake
At first I thought it is espasol a cylinder-shaped Filipino rice cake originating from the province of Laguna. It is made from rice flour cooked in coconut milk and sweetened coconut strips, dusted with toasted rice flour but its not it is Injeolmi is a variety of tteok, or Korean rice cake, made by steaming and pounding glutinous rice flour, which is shaped into small pieces and usually covered with steamed powdered dried beans or other ingredients.
Injeolmi is not only a popular snack but also is considered a high quality tteok, used for janchi, party, feast, or banquet) in Korea. It is easily digested and nutritious.Injeolmi can be stored in a refrigerator and taken out when needed. If the tteok is heated slightly in the microwave, it may taste almost as good as the newly made one.
Home-cooking and Blogging Life
I am quite busy lately and as usual both online and offline. Offline I need to cook a lot for my husband’s meal, it is every three hours. I just cooked three or four times a day because few of his meals are just whey and small portion of rice. Despite of this I still feel very busy that I felt procrastinated to post something on my blogs. Dunno if this procrastination is brought by too much work just to published a post. Imagine in WordPress I need to upload it in other site and etc. unlike in blogger all I need is to directly upload the photo in my post.
Anyway I wake late today and still sleepy. I was not able to finish adgitizing because I have no more time to do it I have too cook some chicken in hot and spicy sauce.
