Memorial Day in Korea

Today is public holiday in Korea, it is Hyeonchung-il or Memorial Day it commemorates the men and women who died while in military service or in the independence movement. A national commemoration ceremony is held in Seoul National Cemetery on this day.

The gym is also closed during public holiday dunno what’s the connection but they are really closed. Unlike in our country private sector are usually open on this kind of holiday but here I guess they’re not.

Car Parking

If there’s one thing that Korea should built that is a lot of parking area for cars. Cars are enormous here so you will not be surprised if you will find them park in the streets that can cause delayed to some people. Especially if there are some drivers who don’t know the right way to get in and to get out.

As you can see the street could only be used for one car because the other half is already used as car park. So you need to be careful while walking in the streets you may never know what will happen if the driver is busy on his phone.

A Day in Seoul

Today is my husband’s birthday but we celebrated it yesterday when we went to Seoul to buy new lens for his DSLR camera, we ate in a Kazakhstan Restaurant that serves Kazakh and Russian food. Most of the food we ordered are Russian cuisine, anyway after our sumptuous meal we looked for A La Do a Russian Bakery but we already spend a lot of time looking for it we never found it so we decided to take the subway back to the bus terminal, better luck next time.

We are not able to get the current bus when we reached the platform the bus is already moving away, I felt embarrassed when my husband pointed out the long line to me . So we went at the back on the line but when a new bus arrived which is not going to Icheon the people moved to the bus and there’s a new line forming in Icheon platform so we transferred there but as the line is growing a not so old man caught are attention, saying that the old line is going to Icheon. Confusing huh? So we transfer again in the line and just on time a new bus to Icheon arrived.

Sending a Package Home and Cooking Soup for Brunch

I wake up very early today and finally I am able to send the package home it has been sitting here for few months already. My husband carry it to the post office,  I also told him I might borrow some of his money in case I need more and my money is not enough. Well I had enough but the fact that the postal fee increases already,  the fee increased with 2 kilos rate.

Alumni Conference in Icheon Elementary School

I wake up today with loud music and an emcee speaking in the nearby elementary school. My husband told me that there’s something going on because he saw some tent from our window. After making my coffee I decided to check it out, I didn’t even finish drinking it I just had one sip, I changed my clothes and I went out.

When I arrived in the school entrance I saw a lot of cars and this banner but as I can’t read Hangul I can’t still figure out what was the occasion.

Icheon Elementary School

There’s really a lot of tent encircling the wide playground and they are full of people and food. Others are drinking soju (the popular liquor here), eating and talking to each other. There are few people in the play ground which looks like they are doing fun games, I saw some people with balloons. I didn’t take long because I am too shy to be noted and snapping around, I was not able to take good picture because there are cars and trucks blocking me from where I stand.

Icheon Elementary School

I walk around the school I mean the street around the school so people will not think I just went there to take pictures. Anyway when I arrived home I translated what is written in the banner and it says “The 5th Icheon Elementary School Alumni Conference” thanks to Korean Virtual keyboard and Google translate for making it possible.

Buddha’s Birthday

I intended to bring my camera last Friday when we went to the gym so I can snap photos in the street. The national road is adorned with lanterns on different color this is already expected on month of May where Buddha’s birthday is celebrated, Prince Siddhartha Gautama. This is a holiday that is traditionally celebrated in Mahayana Buddhism.

As what I saw in the Korean calendar Buddha’s Birthday fall on May 28 and on that day the gym is closed as well as other establishments. Many temples provide free meals and tea on the day of Buddha’s birth to all visitors so if there’s temple near you, try to pay a visit. Sanche bibimbap are often provided for breakfast and lunch.

Ice Cream Cake

Right now I am suffering from sweet rashes on my gum and it is painful to eat. It started two days ago, I am craving for ice cream the other day but lazy me wouldn’t like to got out and buy one. I am able to survived my craving for one day but the next day I can’t resists it anymore my husband keep teasing me with the word ice cream and I keep hearing ice cream on the TV show he is watching, imagine the torture. So I went out instead of buying ice big container of ice cream I got parfait, ice cream in the sticks and chocolate oreo ice cream one of my favorite. I ate them just on one night, lol.

The next evening I feel a familiar craving again so I went out and buy this ice cream in the stick which I called ice cream cake, it really tasted good on my tongue it has dairy,  chocolate chips and a caramel syrup in the center. On my first pack I already felt something strange on my mouth, it felt sore every time I had a bite. As much as I want to stop eating I can’t so I keep eating until I ate the last pack but I am extra careful though, I have to eat on the side of my mouth being careful not to touch the sweet rashes on my gums.

Tonight I am craving for more but no matter how I like it I can’t have it. I have to wait until the sweet rashes on my gums left and have to wait until I have more money to spend, I spend all my coins last night. Oh by the way this ice cream cake it buy 2 take 2 so it is really addicting.

Garbage Truck?

The other day my husband asked me to buy black ink cartridge for our printer so he can print the lonely planet guide that we need on our next summer vacation. I also went to Daiso to look for can opener because our old can opener is already useless this is what I saw after going to Daiso a truck with a lot of craps, by looking at it you might thought it is a garbage track but I think it is not because around this truck there’s two ladies who are stopping by passers by giving a large book because I saw it when one of the lady stop one passer by in front of me.

I don’t know what is the book for and I can’t read what is written in the truck, do you?

Chocolate Donuts from Dunkin Donuts

This is what I got when I went out to buy umbrella, I happened to passed by at Dunkin Donut outlet and I can’t resist my craving for chocolate donuts. Yeah, that’s all I bought in donut shop aside from the heart shape strawberry donut. I made sure that I got all the available chocolate donuts in the shelves and of course I am not going to forget the chocolate munchkins. I got the double dazed, chocolate zebra and I already forgot the name of the other one.

Sweet Cherry Plate

The other day while we are shopping at Lotte Super I wandered around the house and home aisle and I found this plate cute. It only cost ₩1,000 ($0.87) so I bought it thinking I am going to eat small amount of rice if I am going to use it.

I think it is more as a kid’s tray rather than  a plate because it it is in the same shelves of the large trays. My husband just nod his head when he saw what I am holding.
