Chinese Food for Valentines Dinner
Hi guys been busy lately, we had dinner date tonight to celebrate Valentines day in advance because 14th will be on Monday and Pookie bear has to work and he is also on diet during weekdays. So we headed to grill house at the second floor of Kim’s Club Mart it is buffet grill house, so as we open the door we find out it is a restaurant where you are going to sit in the floor and it is quite full so we retreated because Pookie bear don’t like the idea of sitting in the floor. So we just headed inside the Kim’s Club Mart and look for something we are gonna like I ended buying something.
Slice Pork with Sauteed Pimentos
Since the plan didn’t work out Pookie bear asked me where I want to eat, to make it short we ended to eat in Chai Wok a Chinese restaurant for Valentine’s Dinner. Look at the plate below isn’t it a heart? Just on time for Valentines day huh?
Stir-fried rice with chicken
After eating dinner we went to Lotte Super looking for dental floss we’ve been looking for it since last week but we cannot find in the nearby stores. After it we headed to the supermarket we usually shop, and this is what I got with other house supplies…
A bar or bars of chocolates?
When we passed along Barunson a gift shop with a lot of big teddy bears Pookie bear asked me if I want one when I pointed the store to him, I say no. I am just being practical that we cannot carry a lot of stuffs whenever we planned to left Korea in the future.
Pookie bear says just think that our Valentines dinner is our buffet dinner in Seoul.
Shopping at Watsons for the second time
Yesterday I have blogged about my shopping experience at Watsons well you know me one is not enough so last night I returned to Watsons and finally take photo of the newly open store. I went out to supermart last night to buy tomatoes and soy milk and then went to Watsons because my sole purpose was to buy M & M’s chocolate because I am saving the first set I have bought for my mother and sister. When I went inside I wander around the shelves and I decided to buy another Nivea Lotion (Sparkling White), and there I have found out Moisturization lotion is a little expensive the Sparkling white so I just bought the latter again and bought Pantene shampoo because they are buy 1 take 1 too. I also bought a little bottle of Moisturizing and Strengthening Olive Shampoo it is a Watsons Product.
When I pay at the counter the guy gave me free samples, darn when I shopped in the morning they don’t give me anything even my purchased cost a lot than the second time. When I went home I look for the receipt inside the Watsons bag but can’t find it. Well maybe they don’t give receipts or their printer is not yet working.
As of now I am going to be grounded for few weeks, no more going out or shopping because I spend all my allowance yesterday. My allowance was saved because Pookie bear gave it to me late, and hey did I tell you I also asked advanced allowance last night so I can buy chocolates?
I have a lot of stuff today but it is not all for me, I am planning to send another sweet box home and I am gonna save for the postal fee sooner or later ..
Ice drops from the sky
I guess I need to change my blog title to A LAZY BLOGGER, I am feeling lazy to blog which is not noticeable because my post are too long . Dork! But that’s how I feel, it’s been one or two weeks since I joined meme’s except Nostalgia of course, and now I am joining again this meme every Friday.
Here’s my share of sky, a dark snowy sky taken last Wednesday.
Enjoying the Snow in Korea
As of four o’clock in the afternoon there is a snow fall here in our place, I’ve been waiting for it because there’s already snow fall in Seoul but here it is still sunny. Then as I am working in front of my computer our room turns dark so I turn on the light and decided to cook rice , lunch as well and when I peep in our window Yay, it is snowing. The excited me went out with my shorts and thin shirt without a slippers. Lol, I didn’t even take time to get my slippers in the cabinet because I was such in a hurry. Click..click..click..then my feet cannot take the cold anymore I went inside and look for my sweater and grab my slippers in the cabinet. Click..click..again and I decided to shot a photo of me in the middle of the snow forget about the noodles I am boiling I’m busy on what I am doing.
Then returned again inside our apartment and cracked some eggs, Pookie bear will not be happy if he found out I did not cook his meal. After it, went outside again, now wearing a winter jacket and shoes. I left the noodles in the pot, the two locals working on the next apartment look at me maybe wondering if it is my first time to see snow. Lol!
Just so lucky that this metal thing is in front of our apartment so I was able to set the timer of my camera and take photo of myself. Hehe..when I returned inside our apartment the noodles for my pancit canton was not good to eat anymore, it is too sticky and wet. Now this is how it looks like after the snow. Scroll down..
Just kidding, this is how it looks like in Canada right now. My mother-in law send this pic to Pookie bear and it was send to me after wards. My MIL says classes were postponed because some of the roads are not working, blocked by snow. As I look at the above photo it feels like your are living in an Igloo because snow is more than half of your house. This is just a two days snow how much more one week?
Crab Allergy
I have nothing to do, bored and itchy. I think I had an allergy eating Crab Kimchi, both of my arms started to itch and became reddish in color. I can’t resist scratching it so I put petroleum jelly, it works a bit but I don’t feel well. I asked my husband to make a coffee for me, hmm even though he is a head butt sometimes he is still so sweet especially when I am not feeling well. Thanks sweetie, sorry for the disturbance you can know continue with your genealogy (lol).
I don’t think I have a crab allergy because I ate crabs before and there’s nothing happened to me. And as what I have found online I don’t have a symptoms of having a crab allergy, crab allergy is an adverse reaction by the body’s immune system to crabs or food containing crab. The body’s immune system produces immunoglobulin E (IgE – an antibody) and histamine in response to contact with the allergen. The specific symptoms that can result can vary considerably amongst patients from a severe anaphylactic reaction to asthma, abdominal symptoms, eczema or headaches.
The treatments:
- Avoid foods containing the allergen, adrenaline injection if anaphylactic reaction occurs, antihistamines, bronchodilators for asthmatic symptoms
- The central concept of management of food allergy is allergen avoidance. When this is not possible or inadvertent allergen exposure occurs, treatment depends on the nature and severity of the reaction. Treatments include:
- Dietary modification and allergen avoidance – with education of children, parents and carers.
- No treatment – if symptoms are mild and self-limiting
- Antihistamines – Useful for allergic rhinitis and some allergy mediated skin conditions. Not helpful in asthma except for mild seasonal asthma where allergy may be a precipitant

Radish Kimchi
On over a year staying here in Korea, I am already used with their food. There are days that I am craving for bibimbap but can’t do anything because too shy to go inside a Korean restaurant because until now I am ignorant with their national language, I always told myself to learn it but I am always busy to do so. Maybe I will learned when we are not here anymore in Korea, sarcasm.
Anyway Kimchi is the traditional fermented Korean dish, mostly when people heard kimchi what immediately comes to their mind is cabbage. For your information it has different varieties as what I know there are 100 varieties of kimchi. This one (photo) is my favorite as of now, it is a radish kimchi. Every time I ate I have a side dish of this except with noodles of course. This kimchi is served in cubes that’s why when I want to eat I have to cut it into cubes.
If you want to make your own radish kimchi here’s how:
Cubed Radish Kimchi
1 daikon radish (weighing approximately 1 1/2 lbs.)
Water and kosher salt for brining
2 tsp Korean fine chili pepper powder
1/2 bulb of garlic, finely grated
1 1/2″ fresh ginger, finely grated
4 tsp Korean anchovy sauce
1 1/2 tsp sugar
3 tsp Korean coarse chili pepper flakes
4 scallions, green parts only, sliced into 1″ lengths
1 1/2 tsp rice flour
3/8 C water
- Fill a big non-reactive bowl (this means no metal!) with cool water and stir in a handful of kosher salt. Peel the radish and cut into 1″ cubes. Put the radish cubes into the brine and leave them there to soak for 20 minutes.
- Make rice porridge by mixing the rice flour into the 3/8 C water and bringing it to a boil, at which point it will thicken, then removing it from the heat and setting it aside to cool to room temperature.
- Sterilize a jar. (Yeah, this seems kinda silly, but all the recipes I’ve read suggest it, so why not?)
- When the radish cubes are done brining, rinse them off with cool water. Mix in the Korean fine chili pepper powder.
- Mix all the other ingredients into a paste, then mix them into the radish cubes, making sure that all the cubes are basically smeared all over with this stuff. This is tons of fun to do with bare hands.
- Put the whole mess into a jar and screw on the lid. Leave it out at room temperature for about 40 hours, at which point it is ready for eating and should be kept in the fridge henceforth.

Our First Valentine Together
Few more days and it is already Valentines Day. Any plans for it? My husband kept asking me if where I want to go on Valentines Day, or where we going to celebrate it. Normally if there’s an occasion we’re eating lunch/dinner outside and then before we came home we’re going to buy a special cake.
I told him either to Outback Steakhouse or in a Mexican Restaurant, I also suggest to him that we should try “hot pot” in a Korean restaurant where seafoods is freshly cooked at your table but he said we should try it on our last night here in Korea. Outback is my favorite steakhouse, I love their food, and beverages. When it comes to Mexican, I love their food esp. burito and chili fries and a lot more.
This is our first valentines together, so it might be special not like the previous years we just greet each other by an e-card, but he never forget to send chocolates, dozen of roses and big teddy bear to me by ordering online. It was also last Valentine when I received a digital camera from him as gift, so my cam is already one year in my possession.
What’s my gift for him? Nothing big, just a chocolate and a simple card (photo), he loves white chocolates so much with cookies and cream that’s what the chocolates I have for him. “Sorry Sweetie that’s all I can afford, you know I don’t have a work and you never gave me allowance anymore (lol). Actually he already seen the chocolate, I bought it along with the Pink Kisses on my previous blog, I manage to kept it on my arm but he showed up from the big room and ask me what I have, he kept insisting and darn….he said sorry afterwards.
WThe photo looks gay, I edited it eh., this is my 4th entry for I LOVE PINK!

Saturday Gimbap
Last Saturday we went to International Clinic, Itaewon to have my second B shots (Hep B). Actually I am kinda one week late, but hubby feel tired during that week. Whew, the shot was kinda hurt, the nurse had also told me my arm will be numb for few days and she was right. Well we have to return again in June for my second A & third B shots. Hopefully we are still here.
Itaewon is kinda far from us, I wore three clothes behind my coat that day. I just want to make sure that my snut will not run away from my nose because of cold temperature. (lol) I have learn my lesson the other week when we go to Canadian Embassy I am so cold that time.
Anyway, it was been a long time since we ate Gimbap, a popular Korean fast food made from steamed white rice (bap) and various other ingredients, rolled in gim (sheets of dried seaweed) and served warm in bite-size slices. Gimbap is often eaten during picnics or outdoor events, or as a light lunch, served with danmuji or kimchi. It is similar, but not identical, to norimaki, one of the many variants of the Japanese rice-based dish sushi.
The basic components of gimbap are rice, meat or other protein-rich ingredient, and a large variety of vegetables, pickled, roasted, or fresh. Traditionally, the rice is lightly seasoned with salt and sesame oil/perilla oil. Popular protein ingredients are fish cake, crab meat, eggs, and/or seasoned beef rib-eye. Vegetables usually include cucumbers, spinach, carrots, and danmuji (pickled radish). After the gimbap has been rolled and sliced, it is typically served with danmuji.
