Korea National Foundation Day (Gaecheonjeol)

Today is public holiday here in Korea to commemorates  Gaecheonjeol  or National Foundation Day in English . This holiday celebrates the creation of the state of Gojoseon (ancient Korea) founded by Dangun Wanggeom in the year 2333 BC.

I don’t know that is holiday today when I wake up I am startled why my husband is still sleeping when he has a work in few minutes, so I asked if he has no class. He chuckled while saying I’ve been here for a long time and I don’t know the public holidays are.,

Anyway tonight when I went to throw the garbage bag I’ve seen this big stuff toy, it is still okay just kind of dirty. I think a little kid owns this as there’s a lot of brown spots which I believe from chocolates.  Just washed this and it will looks brand new, dunno who’s going to be the lucky owner, I can’t pick it up because it is too big for a box to Philippines.

Anyway the origin of the holiday, Gaecheon refers to 3 October B.C. 2457, the date when Hwanung  descended from heaven to live with mankind. The harvest ceremony was celebrated in each Korean kingdoms; Yeonggo of Buyeo, Mucheon  of Yemaek, Gyeeum  of Mahan and Byeonhan, Dongmaeng  of Goguryeo, Palgwanheoi  of Silla.

In 1909, Gaecheonjeol was enacted as a national holiday. The festival is held annually. At first, Gaecheonjeol had been celebrated on 3 october on lunar calendar but it has been celebrated on 3 october on solar calendar since 1949.

25th Icheon Ceramic Festival

We went to Seolbang Park last night just to look around, just too bad that we didn’t go during day time and we missed the performance for the celebration of Ceramic Festival. So all I got to do is pose in the board where the performance schedule is posted.

Photobucket

According to what I read online the 25th Icheon Ceramic Festival, the nation’s representative event for ceramic arts, is scheduled from September 24th to October 23rd at Seolbong Park in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do Province under the theme of ‘Journey From Fire’.

The visitors will have a chance to turn the spinning wheel and make their own pottery under the guidance of a professional potter, paint pottery, and make traditional ceramic toys. In addition, the festival will feature a clay crafts and experience center for children, as well as various ceramic exhibitions.

Admission is free.

Nonghyup Supermarket in Icheon

I am quite busy these past few days both online and offline. Instead of going to the gym every night my husband and I decided to take a walk.  So every night if we are not in the gym we are walking around Icheon, and it is a good thing because we discover more place, store and establishment around us like this big Nonghyup Supermarket which already looks like a mall.

Nonghyup Supermarket Icheon

We went inside and bought few items like noodles, beets and mouth wash.  As we would like to buy more we can’t because this supermarket is quite too far from our place and we are in diet, we don’t need much aside from vegetables and fruits. I think this is the main hub of Noghyup Supermarket near our place.

A Little Dark on Monday

I am quite busy these past few days tweaking some theme so hope you understand why I seldom visit and left a comment, anyway I stopped tweaking for a while because my computer is not working properly I think because I have a lot of images in my computer plus I have only 15G left on my hard drive even my hard drive won’t affect my memory it still disturbs me thinking that 16G USB has a bigger space than my computer. So I am cleaning my computer and updating all the necessary software.

Oh well today I went to  the postal office to mail the box for a friend in Philippines it’s been in our apartment for few weeks and I just mailed it. Actually it supposed to be mailed in Christmas like what I told her but I guess she is excited, haha. Like what is expected the postal fee is expensive than the amount of what is inside the box, haist life!

Dunno if we are going to the gym today we didn’t go last week because we prefer to walk around the neighborhood nope actually city because we reached up to the national road to Seoul. It is spitting outside, so the sky is kind of dark.

Short Walk at the Evening of Chuseok

Yesterday is Chuseok here in Korea,  a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar so most of the establishment are closed aside from the 24 hours convenient store. Instead of feasting with food I am starving for food because of the juice fasting.

Anyway my husband and I decided to take a short walk to energize and let our blood circulate, the more we walk the more hungry I felt seeing food stores and restaurant.

Photobucket

Dunkin Donuts is among one of the open store which I am surprised because before the donut shop is already closed at ten o’clock in the evening but as of last night it is quite full. Most of the people I’ve seen walking around is family., maybe they’re visiting their parents and grandparents. I have seen a mother and her daughter walking, I have thought the child has a white puppy with her on leashed but when I look carefully she has no white puppy with her. Did I just see a white puppy ghost?

The Old Apartment in Seoul

It’s been ages since I joined nostalgia because I have been busy and partly I can’t think of something that will remind me. The photo below was taken a year ago in our old apartment in Seoul, it has two rooms and the small room that will supposed to be kid’s room is our dresser or room for clothes. We are heading to China the next day that’s why our clothes are already packed and only left on the rack are my day clothes.

Photobucket

That day too my husband new camera just arrived and he took a sample shot of me while closing the door in the balcony.

Cleaning and Organizing the Apartment

It just started by my things filing up in the closet, small towels, unused brassiere and underwear’s that are still packed on their little pouch. My husband noticed that the stuff on the little board is getting heavier and it might lost control and will result to a big mess.

So he removed the makeshift board at top and transfer the underwear’s and socks to floor cabinet, and the things on the floor cabinet to the built-in cabinet near the main door and my junk in the built-in cabinet to trash can and box.

Photobucket

It took me so long to segregate things as everything are precious to me, we ended up throwing the red food cover given to us by Nonghyup Supermarket, the old scale, old umbrella and my old sandals then after cleaning we went shopping to Lotte Super, we shopped mostly vegetables I’ll blog it to my food blog if not today maybe tomorrow.

Eating Chinese Food from Chai Wok on Weekend

I thought our last cheat day is last Friday before we start our juice fasting but it’s not, last night we had ice cream and today we had Chinese food and some sweets. I went to the Chinese restaurant alone to order a take-out, it is a little far from us around 15-20 minutes away.

Photobucket

The only thing I noticed when I am walking in the shopping district it seems I am the only one wearing a faded old pants and faded old clothes, lol even the few South East Asian people are on their sporting clothes. In short I look more like I am inside the house, I guess I need to change my outfit next time. Lol!

Walking Along the Streets of Korea

If motorcycle or jeepney is overflowing in Philippines here in Korea cars are overflowing, looking for evidence? See it for yourself, cars are park everywhere. Yeah, right that’s how it looks like here in the city where we lived the cars are just park in the street that sometimes cause traffic if there are cars in every intersection plus few people walking.

Korean Streets

Instead of two cars only one car can passed/used the street as in every corner there’s car on parking.  This is normal in inside streets but on national road you can’t say anything as they are very progressive on infrastructure and it is just amazing how  they connect one city to another.

Juicer and A Sample of Carrot Juice

As we don’t have a gym schedule tonight my husband and I went out to pay the internet bill, to canvass the amount of fruits and vegetables between the three big supermarket around us and to pick the juicer that we ordered from Samsung appliance store. Well after canvassing and the jotting down the prices as we want to know which supermarket sells a nice deal of what we wanted. The end result we still picked Kim’s Club Mart.

Photobucket

Anyway when we reached home we excitedly try our new juicer by preparing a carrot juice, we used 1 1/2 carrot and a small piece of ginger and we got 250ml of juice.
